Motor Insurance Database

Following the 4th EU Motor Insurance Directive introduced in January 2003, each EU member is required to establish a centralised method of identifying who insures a vehicle from its registration number. In the UK, this process is done via the Motor Insurance Database (MID).

The Directive states that it is the motor trader’s responsibility to submit to the MID details of vehicles bought and sold or owned by them that will be driven, used or parked on a road or public place.

How to update your client's MID records:

There are 3 ways you can update the record:

• Complete our online MID notification form > click here.
• Complete our MID notification form and fax this to us > download PDF.
• Call us on 0870 87 87 40 (Option 3).
